ADVANCES IN CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTION CONFERENCE

  1. GENERAL INFORMATION

Hanoi, October 7th 2023 – In collaboration with Cleveland Clinic, the world’s number one hospital in cardiology, Vinmec convened a distinguished assembly of experts to orchestrate “Advanced in Cardiovascular Intervention” conference. This symposium was conceived to consolidate accrued achievements as well as disseminate the latest knowledge and cutting-edge techniques within the realm of cardiology, both domestically and on a global scale. The conference aims to elevate the professional competence and treatment outcomes for cardiovascular pathologies in Vietnam.

The conference transpired within a single day, encompassing four comprehensive sessions delving deeply into various facets of cardiovascular interventions. The program encompassed an extensive gamut of subjects, ranging from specialized know-how and clinical acumen concerning intricate procedural techniques to the enhancement of quality management processes that prioritize patient safety.

Significantly, the conference dedicated a specialized session to complex cases, thereby affording a wellspring of practical, diverse, and patient-centric experiences in cardiovascular care. The conference underscored the burgeoning global trend towards percutaneous cardiac interventions as well as the evolution and standardization of this field. This paradigm shift transcends Vinmec boundaries, extending to other healthcare facilities, with the aim of optimizing treatment efficiency and reducing hospitalization times. Ultimately, this augments the quality of care provided to patients.

  1. KEY HIGHLIGHTS IN TERMS OF ADVANCED TECHNIQUES

Vinmec has demonstrated expertise across three pivotal domains: valve interventions, coronary artery interventions, and arrhythmia interventions.

The most significant achievement to be highlighted is the treatment of severe aortic stenosis via minimally invasive Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). This paradigm shift obviates the need for extensive open-heart surgery, artificial heart-lung machines, and protracted recovery periods. Instead, patients experience mild sedation and a minimally invasive procedure lasting a few hours, leaving no discernible scarring, minimal discomfort, and a rapid return to daily life within 2-3 days.

Vinmec stands as the vanguard in independently executing TAVI in Vietnam sinxe 2017, with a notable track record of successful cases numbering 108 out of a nationwide total of 180 cases. This accomplishment substantially reduces the duration of treatment and markedly enhances the quality of life for patients afflicted with aortic stenosis, particularly those in the elderly demographic with multiple comorbidities and a heightened surgical risk.

In addition to percutaneous aortic valve interventions, Vinmec has garnered acclaim for its expertise in complex coronary artery interventions. This involves the use of advanced functional and intravascular imaging techniques to accurately identify cases necessitating intervention, thus ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

As a testament to these achievements, Vinmec Times City Hospital (Hanoi) and Vinmec Central Park Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) became the first two hospitals in Southeast Asia to receive accreditation from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) for coronary artery intervention which is now routinely implemented across Vinmec Healthcare System.

The adoption of modern techniques and the assimilation of global best practices have fostered rapid patient recovery, reduced hospitalization durations, and lowered overall treatment costs. These developments culminate in a more seamless experience like patients undergo endovascular procedures, even in cases requiring advanced interventions.

  1. CLEVELAND CLINIC PARTICIPATION

The most remarkable aspect of the conference is the participation of cardiovascular intervention experts from the Cleveland Clinic, the world’s 2nd healthcare system according to the 2023 Newsweek’s ranking, and the no.1 hospital for cardiovascular in the United States and the world for the past 28 years according to US News & World’s report.

These renowned experts have been collaborating with Vinmec through Cleveland Clinic Connected of which Vinmec Times City became an official member in early 2023. Through this collaboration, in addition to maintaining ACC quality standards, Vinmec has elevated the quality of cardiac treatment and management to higher bar. Complex cardiovascular cases have been discussed with world experts from the Cleveland Clinic to determine the optimal treatment plan, and specialized procedures in the fields of intervention, surgery, diagnosis, and cardiac resuscitation have been adjusted to Cleveland Clinic standards.

Furthermore, assessments of the practical capabilities and expertise of doctors and nurses have been conducted to supplement and enhance the professional team, along with plans for advanced training. Quality management and patient safety have also been meticulously reviewed and adapted to the Cleveland Clinic model based on JCI standards for cardiovascular field.

Within the framework of the conference, Cleveland Clinic’s experts will lead the specialized session on complex cases, providing valuable experiences for specialized physicians. As this conference primarily focuses on cardiovascular interventions, collaboration in other areas between Vinmec and the Cleveland Clinic, such as cardiac surgery, cardiac intensive care, heart failure, and cardiac quality management, will continue to be implemented and reported in future conferences.
