Vinmec establishes osteosarcoma research lab in Japan

(Dan Tri) – Vinmec Health System recently announced the establishment of a research lab specialized in cellular and subcellular level osteosarcoma at Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU), Japan.

The goal of the research lab is to seek the best treatments possible by combining the advantages of OMU’s in-depth osteosarcoma research with the actual clinical treatment data from Vinmec.

The Vinmec osteosarcoma research lab at OMU is specially designed with full range of modern equipment along with leading storage and analytical technologies for research such as PHCBI deep refrigeration; gene-level sample processing technology, next-Generation Sequencing molecule – the state-of-the-art DNA and gene sequencing technology nowadays…

With a large amount of data from Vinmec Tissue Bank and specialized technology from OMU – the works at the Research Lab offer high level of personalization, especially for the unique characteristics of Vietnamese people in particular and Asia in general. This also acts as a valuable analytic base, enabling effective treatment monitoring for patients at the moment as well as facilitating the evaluation of new methods of diagnosis and treatment in the next 5-10 years.

Following the opening ceremony, the two sides immediately held a meeting to specifically discuss about the Lab’s operation with the participation of Prof. Norifumi Kawada – Chairman, Head of Department of Hepatology, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU)

Specifically, the Research Department will have high applicability thanks to the continuous coordination activities between Vietnamese and Japanese doctors to treat patients undergoing treatment at Vinmec. After each course, biological products will be sent to Japan for analysis, from which the doctor refines the regimen such as increasing/decreasing the dose of chemotherapy, oral drugs, etc., in accordance with each person’s progress in order to achieve the goal. highest efficiency.

Vinmec osteosarcoma Intensive Research Laboratory was developed and co-developed by Assoc. Prof. MD. Le Thi Thanh Thuy from the School of Medicine (OMU) and Professor Tran Trung Dung – Director of Vinmec Center for Traditional Medicine & Traditional Medicine, cum visiting professor at OMU. Director, operating activities and chairing related projects.

Participating in the research guiding are leading Japanese oncology experts who are also faculty members at universities such as: Prof. Norifumi Kawada – Chairman, Head of Department of Hepatology, Graduate School of Medicine (OMU); Prof. Hisashi Motomura – Graduate School of Medicine, Department of Clinical Medical Science, School of Medichine, Chairman of the International Cooperation Committee, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (OMU); Professor Daisuke Tsuruta – Head of the Department of Cosmetic Dermatology, Undergraduate and Graduate School of Medicine (OMU)….

Prof. Tran Trung Dung, Co-Director of the Research Lab in Japan, indicated: “Basic research helps the clinician’s hands and eyes to reach deeply at the cellular and subcellular levels of the process. Only with more in-depth fundamental research at this level can osteosarcoma treatment outcomes be tracked on an ongoing basis. This practice is also in the direction of personalization in precision medichine that Vinmec is pursuing”.

Congratulating the research and training cooperation project between the two parties, Prof. Norifumi Kawada also affirmed: “This will be an effective bridge for clinical treatment and fundamental scientific research, contributing to the actual treatment for our patients. We hope that the new project will help create an bigger picture about osteosarcoma issues in Vietnam and facilitate the improvement of patient care services.”

The first Japanese experts and Vietnamese researchers will participate in the intensive research program on osteosarcoma at Vinmec Healthcare Innovation Lab, which is expected to bring new breakthroughs and remedies to improve quality of life for the patient.

The establishment of the osteosarcoma Research Lab is part of a research cooperation plan between Vinmec Health System (Vietnam) and Osaka Metropolitan University (Japan) recently signed.

The course of studying and researching at Osaka City University will open up opportunities for Vinmec’s team of orthopedic surgeons to improve their independent scientific research capability – one of the core factors for human resources in a Center of Excellence (COE) as defined by Vinmec Health System’s current academic direction.
