Vinmec pioneers in high-quality human resources training for medical professionals

These past few years, Vinmec’s commitment to turning policy into action has been the driving force and long-standing goal behind all its actions, especially in its efforts to train high-quality human resources for the medical sector.

The establishment of the Advanced Imaging Education Center (AIEC) at the College of Health Sciences – VinUniversity is testimony to Vinmec’s strong commitment to the aforementioned goal.

Realizing the goal of cultivating high-quality human capital

“In my time, we studied subjects in sequential order, such as from surgery and symptoms to pathology. Thus, some knowledge is lost in-between this process of studying pathology and symptoms. The traditional training model at universities has undergone a transformation in response to the evolving demands of the healthcare industry. This shift is driven by the need for doctors to stay up-to-date with the latest developments and techniques in order to enhance the efficacy of their treatments”, shared Assoc. Prof. Bui Van Giang – Director of the Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology Division at Vinmec cum Chair of Radiology Department at VinUniversity.

At AIEC, students will have access to a varied education, from fundamental concepts to hands-on experiences. Upon completion of a training module, students are able to promptly apply their newly acquired knowledge in the corresponding field.

According to Assoc. Prof. Bui Van Giang, each course is designed with a blend of domestic and international students. In addition, students will have the opportunity to receive direct instruction from foreign lecturers with great expertise and experience at prominent hospitals globally, including those in the UK, USA, and Australia. Lecturers will teach using primary data and images. Students are equipped with the skills to handle the intricate process of image reconstruction, honed through a series of classroom stations that simulate real-life scenarios.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngo Quang – Deputy Director of the Administration of Science Technology and Training, Ministry of Health – this is considered a highly advanced academic model. It is designed to facilitate both research and practical training, thereby improving practitioners’ clinical skills. The establishment of AIEC is an appropriate step towards enhancing the proficiency of medical practitioners and offering top-notch healthcare services to the public.

Contributing to enhancing the quality of Vietnam’s healthcare sector

After the course, Dr. Nguyen Ba Phong (Medlatec General Hospital) noted that the advanced orthopedic course he recently attended has improved his understanding of previously unfamiliar cases as a radiologist. The Center’s image bank, along with its advanced facilities and sophisticated imaging and storage systems, proved instrumental in providing the necessary solutions to problems faced by doctors and lecturers. “Studying clinical cases inside and outside the country provided a comprehensive understanding of musculoskeletal diseases. Additionally, surgeons’ findings in clinical cases aided radiologists’ diagnosis of medical images by facilitating a comparison process, thereby resulting in a better-informed conclusion. This, in turn, enhances the interaction between surgeons and radiologists”, he commented.

Discussing AIEC’s exceptional advantages, Assoc. Prof. Bui Van Giang highlighted that courses would help experienced doctors update their knowledge, through highly-practical training on state-of-the-art equipment.

Besides offering imaging services, AIEC also has a team of skilled surgeons to provide informative lectures that give students a comprehensive understanding of the entire process from diagnosis to treatment, including prognosis and other issues. The Center is set to offer a diverse range of courses, not limited to musculoskeletal magnetic resonance imaging. These courses will cover various fields, including obstetrics, oncology, and cardiology, among others.

“The initial concept behind the project was to create a clinical practice environment akin to that of a hospital, albeit with an academic focus. This model is not only our personal aspiration but also a shared vision among medical managers. We aim to contribute, however modest, to a positive impact on public administration and enhancing the quality of medical human resources. This, in turn, will aid in the provision of better healthcare services to the people”, stressed Assoc. Prof. Bui Van Giang.

Upon finishing the course, students will receive a Certificate of Continuing Medical Education (CME) in diagnostic imaging. Besides diagnostic imaging, Vinmec is also promoting continuous training in anesthesia, emergency response, resuscitation, surgery, and so on, with the aim of contributing to the improvement of Vietnam’s healthcare quality and ensuring optimal treatment for patients.
